Health Habits for Long-Term Success

Enjoying the process

read time 4 minutes

Hello posse, welcome to Posana.

Real quick! Before we jump into today’s topic I wanted to welcome you to this community. This is a newsletter where I aim to bring you a 4-minute read every week to help you build your healthy life. Just 4 minutes, that’s all you need.

Today’s quick bites:

  • Why Enjoyable Health Habits Matter

  • Tips for Success

  • What I’ve been trying this week

Recently, I was sent a newsletter written by George Mack who wrote about how one should view life as a video game. The main point of the read was to start at level one instead of overwhelming yourself to reach level 100 overnight. And every day do something to move that gamebar just 1% closer to the next level. This mindset can be applied to many areas in life. In health, have a goal in mind but you can’t expect that to become true overnight. It takes daily habits to move that game bar by 1% to reach one level closer to your goal. Start small but be consistent.

Consistency can be hard in creating healthy habits, but what I found to be true is as simple as, if you enjoy it you will stick to it. If you enjoy the food you eat, you will want to eat it every day. If you enjoy your workouts it will become something you look forward to. The best way to stick to healthy habits is challenging ourselves of course, but also sticking to ones we enjoy.

Why Enjoyable Health Habits Matter

We all know the importance of maintaining good health, but sticking to healthy habits can be challenging if they feel like arduous. Enjoyable habits are more sustainable because:

  • They don’t feel like work: When you enjoy an activity, it feels less like a task and more like a treat.

  • Consistency is easier: You’re likelier to stick with something you look forward to.

  • Better mental health: Enjoyable activities reduce stress and improve overall well-being.

Tips for Success:

  • Create a workout regimen that works for you. Everyone has a different idea of what they consider a killer gym sesh. Find what feels good and stick to it.

  • Utilze apps as a health assisstant. I like to use Classpass to schedule all of my workouts, and I recently downloaded the Intent app. This app helps you create a meal plan based on your long-term goals and has conglomerated with Instacart to bring your grocery list right to you. It was as quick as 20 minutes of downloading the app, creating a meal plan for the week, and the app sending my grocery list to Instacart ready for me to hit deliver.

  • This is a marathon, not a sprint. By incorporating joy into your health habits, you’ll be more likely to stick to them and reap the benefits for years to come.

What I’ve been trying this week:

  • Working outside of my house more. Finding coffee shops to sit at and work. Social health is just as important.

  • Trying to make new recipes, made a roasted tomato soup this past weekend.

Happy July,
